Revelation 3:15 I know your deeds, that you are neither cold nor hot. I wish you were either one or the other! (New International Version)
This portion of scripture talks about how God knows us and if He had a way to describe us, we would be considered lukewarm (half hot/half cold). In your head, you are probably thinking what does that mean? What does that look like? So, let me give you some examples….
We say that we trust God with our lives but yet we worry about how our bills are going to be paid on the regular basis.
We know that one person or maybe a few people in our lives are no good and doesn’t mean us well, however, we continuously allow them to stay in our lives and continue our relationship with them, knowing that they are toxic.
We tell God that we love him and we are going to serve Him with our whole hearts but then we question His way, thoughts, and methods of how our lives have planned out so far and how if it was up to us, our lives would look a lot different
If those examples sound like you or if you can relate in any form of fashion, trust me I understand. I have been there on more than one occasion. If I could be transparent, I still struggle with the plans that God has for my life. However, I do have great news for you.
God prefers for us to either be Hot or Cold, not lukewarm. In order words for those of us who watch sports from time to time the theme during the NBA finals is you either “Go Hard or Go Home”. Make the decision today to decide which temperature you are going to be when it comes to your relationship with God.
If you choose to serve God (Hot) then do what you need to do to remain Hot.
Read your bible every day- If you are not sure where to start you can download the Bible app and start a plan that is of interest to you. The plans that are provided can be as short as 3 days and can go up to 365 days. Some are the plans are actually interactive where they will provide you with daily tasks or in the daily lessons there are videos to watch.
Locate a local assembly in which you can attend- Let us not give up the habit of meeting together, as some are doing. Instead, let us encourage one another all the more since you see that the Day of the Lord is coming nearer- (Good News Translation). Find a church that is right for you within your area. A place where you can be spiritually fed, a place where you can feel comfortable. Where there are services, programs and/or support groups who can meet you where you are and help you get to where you are going. Let us always remember there is no perfect church, just imperfect people striving to please God and to do His will while here are earth.
Reduce if not eliminate distractions- We live in a world where there is always something going on however, we need to calm and clear our minds regularly. Put your phone on do not disturb, put your phone in another room while you are sleeping at night, reduce the amount of time on social media or watching television. You will be amazed at how much you can think clearly when you are not succumbed by distractions.
Pray- Prayer is communication between you and God. When you first wake up in the morning, make time to pray before you pick up your mobile device. I know it’s easier said than done but you can do it. Also, just remember that in a conversation we are not only talking but there should be time to listen too. Don’t just come to God giving Him your complaints, concerns, and worries. Tell God how you adore, honor and appreciate Him. Then take time out to listen. In your listening, God can provide strategy, comfort, and direction.
At the end of the day, let us no longer be lukewarm. Let us give God our all in everything we do!
